Cultural artifacts define a culture, a people and a time in the past. For instance, china or furniture provide valuable insight about those who lived here before us. The Trust has been collecting artifacts – through gifts, transfers, bequests or purchases – since 1968 and currently has over 21,000 artifacts held in trust for the people of Ontario. Some of these objects are on loan to other cultural institutions, including the Tom Thomson Memorial Art Gallery in Owen Sound and The Perth Museum. Each artifact that the Trust acquires – as gifts, transfers, bequests or purchases – is documented, researched, conserved and interpreted according to accepted museological practices. Many artifacts are displayed at Trust sites – such as our spectacular collection of bronzes and Japanese porcelain vases at Fulford Place in Brockville – providing visitors with a sense of the way people lived and worked in the past. Many of our historical artifacts are on loan at cultural institutions in Ontario or at our own properties – including Spadina House in Toronto, Fulford Place in Brockville and the Niagara Apothecary in Niagara-on-the-Lake.
