Front-door key for Duff-Baby House, Windsor

This front door key is made of ferrous metal and belongs to the Trust’s collection of cultural artifacts from Duff-Baby House in Windsor. Its design was common through most of the 18th and 19th centuries. This key unlocked a ward lock on the front door. Locks of this type contain a series of plates and pins called wards. These plates and pins ensure that the lock can only be opened by the proper key.
