Burning of St. Davids 1814, The

On July 8, 1814, during the final campaign of the War of 1812 on the Niagara frontier, an American detachment commanded by Isaac Stone looted and burned the village of St. Davids. The excessive destruction of private property caused outrage on both sides of the frontier, and Stone was summarily dismissed from the United States Army.
