Loyalist Landing at Cataraqui 1784, The

In 1783, official surveying of the countryside around Cataraqui was begun in anticipation of an influx of loyalist settlers following the end of the American Revolution. The next year, some 300 loyalists led by Michael Grass established a temporary camp at Mississauga Point while awaiting township allotments.
