Major Charles Stuart 1783-1865

A moving force behind the establishment of the Anti-Slavery Society of Canada, Stuart, who settled near Thornbury in 1851, devoted much of his life to humanitarian causes. He influenced the anti-slavery movement in England and the United States and fervently supported the temperance society.
