Visiting the Cabin

Welcome back!

Uncle Tom’s Cabin Historic Site is now open for timed in-person and virtual visitation. Pre-registration and pre-payment are required through the Eventbrite ticketing platform.

Note: Before entering the museum, all tour participants will be asked a series of health screening questions. You can review them and take a COVID-19 self-assessment test on the Government of Ontario website here. Should you answer yes to any of these questions, please visit us at another time.

Live, virtual, interactive tours are available three days a week.

When: Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays at 10 a.m., Noon and 2 p.m. Pre-registration limited to 95 people per tour.

Cost: $5 per person 

These 60-minute tours of Uncle Tom’s Cabin Historic Site bring the history of Josiah Henson and the Underground Railroad to life through artifacts, a walking tour of the historical buildings, interactive activities and incredible storytelling. A brief question-and-answer session will follow each tour.

Guided tours of the two-hectare (five-acre) museum complex are available two days a week.

When: Fridays and Saturdays ONLY at 10 a.m., Noon and 2 p.m. Pre-registration limited to 12 people per tour.

Cost: $6 per person  

On arrival, your tour guide will usher you into the North Star Theatre to provide an overview of the trans-Atlantic slave trade, slavery in Ontario, the Underground Railroad and a discussion on the life of Josiah Henson. Your tour continues in the Underground Railroad Freedom Gallery with an introduction to slavery in Africa, the United States and Canada. You’ll visit the outer structures – consisting of the Josiah Henson house, James Harris house, church and sawmill display. The tour concludes in the Henson Family Cemetery, adjacent to the museum complex.
