Thursday, February 11, 2021 at 7 p.m.

London, Ontario’s Heritage Fair 2021 is moving online with a focus on a topic very applicable to our current lives: the cultural impact of pandemics.

Join the London Heritage Council on February 11, with support from the City of London’s Culture Office, as they host this fascinating webinar on Facebook Live. The presentation will bring together a panel of local historians, medical professionals and cultural experts to discuss how previous pandemics – such as the 1918 influenza pandemic, known as the Spanish flu – impacted and shaped culture, and see how the current COVID-19 pandemic is spurring change.

Moderated by the London Free Press’s Megan Stacey, the panellists include:

  • Hilary Bates Neary, local historian
  • Dr. Anisha Datta, Associate Professor of Sociology, King’s University College at Western University
  • David Marskell, CEO of Kitchener’s THEMUSEUM
  • Dr. Vivian McAlister, surgeon at University Hospital London, Professor of Surgery, Western University, Officer of the Order of Canada
  • Dr. Shelley McKellar, Hannah Chair in the History of Medicine, Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry and Professor of History, Western University
  • Dr. Jonathan Vance, Professor and Undergraduate Chair, History, Western University

Learn how pandemics have influenced and continue to shape medical history, societal change and cultural impact.
