Scotch Settlement 1819, The

Disheartened by crop failures and the antagonism of North West Company agents, a group of Scottish settlers left Lord Selkirk's Red River settlement in 1815 and came to Upper Canada. By 1819, many of the Highlanders had taken up land in West Gwillimbury.
