Dido and Aeneas

Opera Atelier returns to the Elgin stage this year with Dido and Aeneas. Based on Virgil’s epic poem The Aeneid, Dido and Aeneas was composed by Henry Purcell with libretto by Nahum Tate at the end of the 1680s. It tells the story of Dido, the widowed Queen of Carthage, who embarks on a blatant affair with the mesmerizing Trojan prince, Aeneas. When he abandons her, she bravely embraces her one alternative to a life of humiliation and regret. This production is family-friendly and ideal for first-time audience members and seasoned opera lovers alike. Starring Colin Ainsworth (Aeneas), Measha Brueggergosman-Lee (The Sorceress), Meghan Lindsay (Dido), Spencer Britten, Danielle MacMillan and Cynthia Akemi Smithers. Join us as we bring the pageantry of Opera Atelier back to the Elgin Theatre.
