New for 2024 — Emerging artists pilot

We’re making changes for the 2024 program year! This year, the focus will shift from professional to emerging artists who will be accepted into the program as emerging artists-in-residence. This pilot will help create more space at the Doris McCarthy Artist-in-Residence Centre for new and upcoming artists who might struggle to participate in residencies elsewhere.

Professional artists are still welcome to apply for the program and may be considered as alternative candidates.

Quick facts

  • All applicants are encouraged to tour the site virtually before applying to ensure that this residency is right for them.
  • Residencies are for single individuals who will live and work at the Doris McCarthy Artist-in-Residence Centre alone for the duration of their stay (one to three months).
  • The Doris McCarthy Artist-in-Residence Centre is not wheelchair accessible and may be difficult to navigate for artists with larger mobility devices.
  • Eligible creative disciplines include visual arts, music, writing, dance, multimedia, film and performance arts. The only disciplines that are ineligible are ones that require heavy machinery, welding or flammable materials. AI-generated art is not permitted.

The application deadline is October 10.

Legal status

Applicants must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents of Canada, or have an application pending for permanent residency status.
