Chief William Yellowhead

Chief of the Deer tribe of the Ojibwa, Yellowhead (c.1769-1864) established his band at the site of present-day Orillia in 1830 in accordance with the government's plan of settling nomadic peoples on designated reserves. In 1838, the highly respected chief (also known as Musquakie) relocated his people to a reserve in Rama Township.
