Hewitt Bernard 1825-1893

A native of Jamaica, Bernard settled in Barrie in 1851 where he opened a law practice. He accompanied John A. Macdonald to the Charlottetown Conference in 1864 and served as secretary of the Quebec and London Conferences at which the groundwork was laid for Confederation.
