Sinking of the Waubuno 1879, The

During the era when the shipping trade was flourishing on the upper Great Lakes, the 200-ton Waubuno was one of many side-wheelers carrying freight and passengers between ports on Lake Huron and Georgian Bay. While sailing from Collingwood to Parry Sound on November 22, 1879, the ship encountered a violent storm and sank with loss of all on board.
