Union of the North West and Hudson's Bay Companies

By 1810, both fur-trading companies were expanding their operations inland into the fur-rich Athabaska area. The British government amalgamated the companies because of the intense competition and violent clashes. In 1821, they became the Hudson's Bay Company.
