Part of Toronto’s vibrant arts and culture scene, the Elgin & Winter Garden Theatres are two distinct venues operating as rental facilities for theatre, comedy, musicals, concerts, lectures and more.
Elgin Theatre
Capacity: 1,538 seats
Stage dimensions:
- proscenium opening: 11.93 metres wide x 7.62 metres high (39 feet, 2 inches wide x 25 feet high)
- stage depth (from plaster line to upstage wall): 9.16 metres (30 feet, 1½ inches)
- apron: (from plaster line to downstage edge): 1.08 metres (3 feet, 6 ⅞ inches)
- grid height: 16.48 metres (54 feet)
Rental rates start at $9,500 + HST per day — exclusive of stage labour, ticketing fees and other charges as applicable.
Winter Garden Theatre
Capacity: 982 seats
Stage dimensions:
- proscenium opening: 11.17 metres wide x 6.09 metres high at centre — 4.87 metres at sides (36 feet, 8 inches wide x 20 feet high at centre — 16 feet high at sides)
- 5.53 metres high to bottom of fire curtain (18 feet, 2 inches)
- stage depth: 7.03 metres (23 feet, 1 inch) from plaster line to upstage wall
- apron (from plaster line to downstage edge): 1.12 metres (3 feet, 8 inches)
- grid height: 12.72 metres (41 feet, 9 inches)
Rental rates start at $6,000 + HST per day — exclusive of stage labour, ticketing fees and other charges as applicable.
All technical labour for both stages is under the jurisdiction of IATSE Local 58. Labour costs are charged in addition to rental fees. Labour costs often surpass the rental fees.
Rental clients must use the services of the theatres’ box office and ticketing provider. Ticketmaster is the exclusive ticketing platform for the venue.

The Elgin & Winter Garden Theatres are available for engagement and wedding photoshoots when the theatres are not otherwise booked for shows and events. When available, photoshoots may be booked Tuesday to Friday during business hours.
The fee is $1,000 + HST. This gives you access to either the Elgin or Winter Garden Theatre auditorium (depending on availability), the grand staircase and the main lobby for up to three hours.
Please note that photoshoot bookings may not be confirmed more than one month in advance.
If you are interested in booking a photoshoot, email ewgphotoshoots@heritagetrust.on.ca with the following information:
- your full name, address and phone number (required for the contract)
- the date you are requesting to book
- the theatre you would like to shoot in (Elgin or Winter Garden)
- the number of people who will be a part of your shoot, including all photographers and videographers
If your booking is confirmed, you will be sent a contract to sign. Payment by credit card or e-transfer is required in advance.
