Hamlet character in a rural area under development (Gormley HCD, City of Richmond Hill)

The Gormley HCD plan states that: “Gormley is a rural hamlet near the south east corner of Leslie Street and the Stouffville Sideroad consisting of 36 households, a church, agricultural land and a manufacturing plant producing concrete products. The community’s interest in heritage districts came about as a response to the increasing rate of change and development being experienced in bordering areas. Concerned that the integrity and character of Gormley might be threatened by approaching large-scale development, the residents have been exploring ways to protect the hamlet and preserve the essence of their neighbourhood.”
