Kingston Observatory, The

The first optical astronomical observatory in Ontario was established in Kingston in 1855 after a solar eclipse roused public interest in astronomical study. The observatory produced barometric readings, fixed meridians for surveying purposes, and provided a time service as well as recording astronomical observations.
