Please join the Ontario Heritage Trust, in partnership with the City of Cornwall and the Cornwall Sports Hall of Fame, as we unveil a provincial plaque commemorating The Flying Frenchmen: Èdouard “Newsy” Lalonde 1887-1970.

After the Montreal Canadiens were formed in 1909, Cornwall’s Édouard “Newsy” Lalonde (1887-1970) joined the team as a forward. He played for the Canadiens until 1922, when he was traded to the Saskatoon Crescents.

This is the second in a series of three provincial plaques honouring The Flying Frenchmen.

The Trust wishes to thank the Ontario Office of Francophone Affairs for its assistance and the Department of Canadian Heritage for its financial contribution through the Canada-Ontario Agreement on French-Language Services.
