Perspectives

History is not static or fixed. It is a dynamic dialogue of perspectives, memories and interpretations of the past that is constantly being reconsidered in light of new information, connections and ideas. There is no one history – no single truth – but many histories with accounts and narratives that represent a diversity of voices. The Trust shares these perspectives in order to broaden our understanding of the complexity, richness and evolving nature of our shared heritage.

For the Huron-Wendat Nation, whose ancestors lived in Huronia (central southern Ontario) in the early 17th century, the arrival of Champlain in 1615 was a significant event – one that would ultimately lead to great conflict, displacement and tragedy. Grand Chief Konrad Sioui of the Huron Wendat Nation (Wendake, Quebec) describes this contact between civilizations in this YouTube video.
