Hudson's Bay Post 1856

Faced with declining trade on the mainland following the establishment of permanent Indian settlements on Manitoulin Island, the Hudson's Bay Company built a substantial post at Little Current in 1856. Because of opposition from the island's native inhabitants and resident missionaries, however, the company's licence was revoked before trade began.
