Allan Gardens Palm House Restoration, Toronto

The City of Toronto’s Parks, Forestry and Recreation department worked with Zeidler Architecture, AREA Architects and Heritage Restoration Inc. to carefully restore and conserve this 1910greenhouse. They refurbished the Palm House’s iconic glass domes, sandstone façades and decorative elements, and restored the original entrance portico while making it accessible. Additional upgrades to glass, electrical and plumbing increased sustainability. The Friends of Allan Gardens volunteer group continues to operate the Palm House. Their historical and community knowledge was essential to restoration. The Friends’ educational programming and local engagement events preserve cultural and natural history within this expertly conserved heritage building.
