Cobalt Train Station Restoration, Cobalt
JHTW Holdings Ltd., with the support of volunteers at the Cobalt Historical Society, completed the restoration and adaptive reuse of the Cobalt Train Station. The 1915 landmark had a significant role in the development of Cobalt and of the mining industry in Northern Ontario during the silver boom, connecting the Temiskaming and Northern Ontario Railway (now Ontario Northland Railway) to Toronto. The structure was last used as a train station in 2012 and has now reopened as an event hall and inn, with meticulous restorations of the vaulted ceiling, interior tiled walls, exterior brickwork and rooftop. The project also included adaptations to meet accessibility standards. This elegant conservation has allowed for a piece of Ontario’s built heritage to serve once again as a point of pride in its community.
