Daniyal Elahi and Harris Elahi

Daniyal and Harris Elahi, high school students and Royal Canadian Army Cadets from North York, have helped to uncover and share the diversity of Canada’s military history. Through a documentary film and a co-authored peer-reviewed article, both titled “Our Shared History and Sacrifice: The Legacy of Canada, Pakistan, and India in World War I,” the brothers explore the contributions of Muslim, Sikh and Hindu soldiers and the fascinating intersection of Canada and South Asia in the First World War. Daniyal and Harris referenced archival sources and worked collaboratively with historians to ensure that these stories were told with accuracy and sensitivity when presenting their research at Remembrance Day ceremonies, schools and historical societies.
