Habitat Restoration in the Rouge River Watershed, Richmond Hill, Toronto, Markham, Stouffville and Pickering

The 10,000 Trees for the Rouge volunteer group, has planted 245,000 trees in the Rouge River Watershed since their inception in 1989, far exceeded the original goal that inspired their name. They continue to host their annual planting event each spring, when volunteers plant thousands of saplings, aiming to restore the ecosystem of the area with native shrubs and wildflowers. They also remove invasive species, add protective fencing, and mentor and train volunteers. Through decades of work across several municipalities, the 10,000 Trees volunteers have restored over 113 hectares (280 acres) of Ontario’s forest cover, helping to conserve our precious natural heritage landscape.
